Special Event Insurance

General Information

The CSU and University policy require University departments, student organizations, and other third parties that use campus facilities for special events to obtain appropriate special event insurance to reasonably protect the University from risk exposures.

The University must receive a Certificate of Insurance and Additional Insured Endorsement prior to the commencement of any work and/or scheduled activity or event.

Minimum Insurance Requirements

Types and amounts of coverage have been established by the University for all parties to show evidence of satisfactory insurance coverage.  Details of the CSU's insurance requirements are provided in CSU Executive Order 849  CSU Insurance requirements.

 

Special Events Insurance

To obtain a quote for special event insurance, student orgs, University departments, or outside entities must first complete a special event questionnaire on Orgsync that can be found here

University Departments

University Departments hosting special events on campus should first contact the following individuals depending on the location of the event:

  • Seven Hills Conference Center: Jim Raney at (415) 405-2220 (jraney@sfsu.edu)
  • Cesar Chavez Student Center: Aimee Barnes at (415) 338-2820 
  • Classrooms, athletic fields, and other University facilities: Dania Russell at (415) 405-8023

When a University Department requires Special Event Insurance, Jim Raney and Dania Russell will direct the University department event organizers to Solinna Kim in Enterprise Risk Management at (415) 338-2681.

Insurance for events held exclusively in the Cesar Chavez Student Center may be purchased through Aimee Barnes, Interim AS Executive Director, Administration at (415) 338-2820; email:abarnes@asi.sfsu.edu or Mark Jaramilla, Meeting & Events Coordinator at (415) 338-2416; email: markj@asi.sfsu.edu

 

Required Certificates of Insurance must be received and paid prior to the commencement of any scheduled event.

University department sponsored special events include, but are not limited to:

  • Receptions
  • Fundraisers
  • Conferences
  • Workshops / Lectures
  • Department Graduations
  • Alumni Related Events

 

Student Organizations

Registered student organizations that use University premises and facilities are required to maintain appropriate insurance coverage as per the CSU’s insurance requirements. Student organizations must first register with the Student Involvement and Career Center (SICC) to be eligible to obtain special events insurance.
